A landfill is defined as a legally authorized site where municipal waste is deposited and sorted for subsequent burial.

The general steps to follow are as follows: Soil compaction; installation of a high-density polyethylene liner; gravel filters; and layers of soil. When a landfill reaches the end of its service life, it is backfilled with a gravel filter, geotextile, high-density polyethylene liner, geotextile, gravel filter, geotextile, and finally, a layer of soil.
This is the final step to consider, and it should only be justified when the previous steps (thermal recycling and mechanical recycling) have been exhausted.
