What are protein skimmers?

Protein skimmers are filtration devices used in aquariums and swimming pools to remove dissolved and suspended organic matter from water. They are also used in industrial water treatment to remove organic contaminants and suspended solids.

In industry, protein skimmers are mainly used in the removal of oil and grease from industrial wastewater. Organic contaminants present in the water adhere to the air bubbles produced in the device, allowing them to be separated from the water and collected in a separate chamber. The water leaving the protein skimmer is then free of contaminants and can be recirculated or disposed of safely.

Protein skimmers are commonly used in the food industry, especially in fish processing plants, to remove fatty residues from wash water. They are also used in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry for the removal of organic contaminants and suspended solids.

In general, the use of protein skimmers in industrial water treatment can significantly reduce the costs and environmental impact associated with contaminant removal. However, the selection of the right type of protein skimmer for a given industrial process and the proper management of the collected waste are key factors in ensuring its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
