Biopolymers in the food industry I

Current trends in packaging:
Single-dose and individual portion packaging, adapted to changes in the family unit.
Convenience: ready meals, take-away, microwaveable, self-heating ...Plastic materials used in the food industry:
- Polyethylene terephthalate.
- Polyethylene, high, medium and low density
- Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
- Polypropylene
- Polystyrene
- Copolymers EVOH, PVdC...

Bioplastics: biopolymers of natural origin from renewable sources.

Degradable plastic:
At the end of its useful life it is discarded and begins to change chemically under the influence of environmental agents that transform it into simple substances or minor components that are eventually assimilated by the environment.
A plastic is biodegradable when, taking advantage of the energy needs of different microorganisms existing in very diverse environmental scenarios, we manage to eliminate, in an efficient way and in adequate time and safety conditions, the different products manufactured with this plastic material.
